The Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning engaged in a Stanely Cup Playoff thriller on Thursday night, with the Lightning emerging with an overtime victory, forcing a Game 7 in the process. However, the win was embroiled in controversy, as the back-to-back Stanley Cup champions were on the ropes in the third period before two questionable penalties were called, giving the Lightning a 5-on-3 power play, which they took advantage of to force overtime. Just mere moments before Tampa Bay's game-winning goal in overtime, Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews was held by the jersey, with the refs turning a blind eye, to the chagrin of Toronto. Matthews reacted to the officiating after the game, via ESPN.

Matthews was similarly tight-lipped when asked twice about his opinion on the officiating.

“I'm not going to comment on that,” he told reporters after the game.

Toronto and Tampa Bay now have been called for the most penalties this postseason (41 for the Leafs; 36 for the Lightning). Did Matthews think the standard of officiating changed in that decisive matchup?

“I'm not going to comment on that,” he replied again. “What's in the past is in the past. It's about the next game.”

Matthews declined to comment on the officiating, which has notably been tighter on the Maple Leafs and Lightning in these Stanley Cup Playoffs.

When asked a second time if he thought the officiating tilted to one team's favor in the critical Game 6 matchup, Matthews again wouldn't comment.

However, the Hart Trophy finalist spoke volumes by effectively saying nothing.
