Kemba Walker says he didn't talk to Kyrie Irving about signing with the Boston Celtics.
Walker and Irving are friends off the court. The New York native says he wanted to make his free agency decision on his own.
Irving left the Celtics after two seasons and signed with the Brooklyn Nets.
“No, I haven't. I don't talk to guys much when it comes to you know making decisions,” Walker told ESPN's Jackie MacMullan. “I like to make decisions on my own for the most part. But yeah I haven't gotten a chance to talk to him, especially coming into this situation. It's something I kind of wanted to do on my own.”
Kyrie Irving reportedly didn't have the best relationship with Celtics head coach Brad Stevens and didn't enjoy living in the city of Boston. So, it makes sense Kemba Walker didn't reach out to Irving.
Walker isn't as high-maintenance as Irving. Boston fans are already loving what they're hearing from Walker. It's not going to take much for Walker to become popular with Celtics fans since Irving left in such a bizarre way.
Kemba has career averages of 19.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 5.5 assists. The three-time All-Star has only made the playoffs twice in his career. That's one of the main reasons Walker joined the Celtics.
He wants to win and go on a deep postseason run.
