Week 5 of the college football season is in the books and there were plenty of shocking results and finishes that will change the landscape going forward. Let’s predict the new top 10 in the college football rankings going forward following Saturday’s chaos.

College football rankings

(Predictions)

1.) Alabama (5-0)

Nick Saban flat out doesn't lose to his former assistant coaches. That streak continued on Saturday as Alabama routed Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss by a final score of 42-21.

The Crimson Tide led 35-0 at one point in a game in which they were favored by 14.5, but many thought Ole Miss had a chance to pull off a stunner.

The momentum seemed to shift right on the opening drive of the game when Alabama's defense stuffed Ole Miss on a 4th down from inside the five yard line. Alabama came right down the field after that, scored, and cruised the rest of the way.

Alabama stays No. 1 in our college football rankings

2.) Georgia (5-0)

Speaking of games that were supposed to be close in the eyes of many even though the oddsmakers said it wouldn't be (Georgia closed as a 16.5 point favorite) Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs steamrolled No. 8 Arkansas.

The starting defense for Georgia still hasn't allowed a touchdown all year. In a five game sample size, that's incredible. The lone touchdown given up all year by the defense as a whole came in garbage time against South Carolina in Week 3.

Georgia kicked Arkansas in the mouth early and did so without starting quarterback JT Daniels playing who was out with a lat injury. Truth be told, it didn't matter who played quarterback for the Bulldogs as they ran it down the Razorbacks' throats all afternoon between the hedges, winning the game 37-0.

An intriguing matchup awaits Georgia next as they'll hit the road to take on Auburn. For now, they remain No. 2 in our college football rankings and there appears to be a clear distinction between Alabama and Georgia, and the rest of the country.

3.) Penn State (5-0)

Penn State had no problem with the Indiana Hoosiers, beating them 24-0 in Happy Valley on Saturday night. The Nittany Lions move up a spot in the rankings due to Oregon's overtime loss at Stanford.

Skeptics remain out on Penn State even though they have wins at Wisconsin (looks less impressive as the weeks go on) and at home against Auburn.

It's a Nittany Lions group that leans on the defense big time and they have a monumental matchup against Iowa coming up in Week 6.

4.) Iowa (5-0)

Speaking of those Iowa Hawkeyes, they entered Friday night as just a three-point favorite on the road against Maryland. What happened after that is still giving Terps fans nightmares.

Iowa had six interceptions in the game against Maryland as the defense and offense for Kirk Ferentz rolled right from the start. The Hawkeyes were never even threatened by Maryland as they won 51-14.

Spencer Petras, who has been wildly inconsistent this year, had his best game of the season as he threw for three touchdowns and added two more on quarterback sneak's.

The matchup against Penn State will weigh heavy on the playoff picture in Week 6.

5.) Cincinnati (4-0)

This could always change down the road even if Cincinnati keeps winning but for right now, they sit at No. 5 in our college football rankings.

Cincinnati went into South Bend, Indiana and put a hurting on Notre Dame. The Bearcats led 17-0 at halftime and after a brief push by the Fighting Irish, the Bearcats came out with a massive road win, 24-13.

Even when Notre Dame made their surge and got it to 17-13, it never really felt like they were going to win the game.

It was a signature win for Cincinnati and it's a super easy schedule the rest of the way for the Bearcats featuring one team after another from the American Athletic Conference.

The Bearcats will try to crash the playoff party but their remaining schedule, even if they blow through it, could hold them back in the end despite wins against Indiana and Notre Dame.

6.) Oklahoma (5-0)

There's still something that doesn't feel quite right about the Sooners. Yes, they beat Kansas State 37-31 but, Oklahoma hasn't really been convincing at any stage so far this year.

The growing distain from fans for quarterback Spencer Rattler is odd, as is the season that the Sooners have put together. Had anyone said before the year that Oklahoma would start 5-0, nobody would've batted an eye. It's the way in which they've gotten to that point that has many uneasy.

They stay at No. 6 in our college football rankings and will get ready for the ultimate rivalry game against Texas in Week 6.

7.) Oregon (4-1)

It seems to never matter how good or bad Stanford is in a given year, they always give Oregon fits.

The ending was mind-boggling in Week 5 as the Cardinal got once chance after another on the final drive of the game to send it to overtime, which they did, before winning 31-24 in the extra session.

It's the same old story yet again in the Pac 12, who now appears ticketed for another year without a playoff team.

Oregon drops to No. 7 in our playoff rankings and will have to run the table and get some help to finish in the top 4.

8.) Michigan (5-0)

Jim Harbaugh's squad makes the biggest jump in our college football rankings predictions, going from No. 14 to No. 8.

Michigan dominated Wisconsin in Madison, 38-17 on Saturday.

It's true that Wisconsin isn't good (1-3 to start the year) but the way in which Michigan won has many believing they could keep the train moving going forward.

We've seen Michigan tease before, many times in the past, so proceed with caution.

For now, they warrant the No. 8 ranking in our college football rankings.

9.) Ohio State (4-1)

Ohio State stays behind Oregon because of the head-t0-head loss.

The Buckeyes put up 45 in the first half alone against Rutgers in Week 5 and won the game 52-13.

Not much else needs to be said as Ohio State starts to creep back up the college football rankings.

10.) BYU (5-0)

Let's show some love to BYU!

They are now a perfect 5-0, with wins over: Arizona, Utah, Arizona State and on the road against Utah State.

Sure, it's not the gauntlet of the SEC or B1G, but BYU navigating through that traffic to reach 5-0 is super impressive.

Plenty of intriguing games remain for BYU. They still play at Baylor, at USC, at Washington State and will host Boise State and Virginia. The schedule for the independent school is very intriguing if they can keep running the table. They come in at No. 10 to round out our college football rankings.
