Houston Rockets guard Russell Westbrook recently passed Earvin Magic Johnson for the second most triple-doubles in NBA history.

The Los Angeles Lakers legend personally took to Twitter to gracefully congratulate Westbrook on his accomplishment:

Westbrook, now with 139 trip-dubs in his career, notched 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 13 assists in Houston's close 126-123 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.

He now trails just Oscar Robertson on the renowned list. However, Robertson is still comfrotably ahead of Westbrook as the Hall of Fame guard amassed 181 total triple-doubles throughout his 14-year NBA career.

Westbrook became the first player since Robertson to average a triple-double in an entire season when he did so during his 2016-17 MVP season. Since that season, the eight-time All-Star went on to average a triple-double in each of the two succeeding seasons.

Magic Johnson, on the one hand, never averaged a triple-double in a single season. The closest he got to do so was in the 1981-82 season, his third year in the league, where he notched averages of 18.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 9.5 assists.

Westbrook's performance helped the Rockets get their first win of the young season. He was an efficient 9-of-17 from the field and converted on nine of his 10 attempts from the freethrow line.

James Harden also had a solid outing and top-scored for Houston with 29 points, albeit on a sour 8-of-29 shooting from the floor. He went 2-of-18 from beyond the arc, but nailed 11-of-12 from the stripe.

The Rockets were able to fend off a magnificent performance from Brandon Ingram, who led the Pelicans with 35 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists.
