The Pittsburgh Steelers might be shorthanded against the Indianapolis Colts with James Conner missing practice on Thursday, per the team's official injury report.

Conner is dealing with a shoulder injury, and rookie running back Benny Snell also missed practice with a knee injury.

The good news for the Steelers is Jaylen Samuels will be back on Sunday, and the team could also Trey Edmunds. For some teams, there might be a sense of panic with Conner injured, but Maurkice Pouncey has faith Samuels and Edmunds can step up when called upon.

“The next guy has to come in there and play really well,” said Maurkice Pouncey. “We’re excited for Trey Edmunds. He went and did a lot of great things on special teams.

“And we get Jaylen back. He is a slow runner. He reads the holes the right way. He is an upfield guy. It always seems like he is always falling forward. Whenever you see that as a lineman, you are like, man, all right, that is a good back. Him knowing the offense and the different things he can bring, sub-packages and things like that. It’s awesome to get him back, but it’s going to be great when we have all of them.”

On the season, Conner has been a bit of a disappointment but is coming off his best game of the year against the Miami Dolphins where he rushed 23 times for 145 yards and a touchdown.

The Steelers currently sit with a 3-4 record but the AFC South is still wide open, and a win on Sunday can move them to .500. They would still have an uphill climb even with a win, but if the team were to lose on Sunday, their playoff chances might be in the rearview mirror.
