It is no secret that the New York Knicks are not in the best of places these days. What was a very promising offseason quickly turned into one of the more disappointing turn of events in the franchise's entire history.

However, for one Taj Gibson, being able to play for the Knicks — a team he signed with as a free agent this summer for $20 million for two years — is nothing less than a dream come true:

“I just always had it in the back of my mind, it was always one of those places I wanted to go,” said Gibson, via Zach Braziller of the New York Post. “I wasn’t scared of the opportunity. I was waiting for the right opportunity [to come here]. I just jumped on it. I know they’ve had a lot of tough years, but when you win games, the city loves you. I’m looking forward trying to compete and playing hard.”

Gibson, 34, was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, which makes this move an emotional homecoming for him. The 6-foot-9 power forward went on to say that this is exactly his motivation in signing with the team:

“It’s a dream come true and it’s a blessing, because I grew up a Knicks fan,” he said. “To be back home around my people, it’s amazing.”

Last season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Gibson averaged 10.8 points (on 56.6 percent shooting), 6.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.6 blocks in 24.1 minutes per contest. He is not exactly a game-changer for New York, but his veteran presence will surely be an asset for the Knicks' young and promising nucleus.
