Freshly-inducted Hall of Famer Yao Ming has been the quiet guy all along. But on his special night, he made sure that people had a blast with his speech.
Yao kicked off the official activities as he was the first to stand at the podium, and he took this opportunity to crack a good joke on Allen Iverson.
Known for his infamous practice comment from his playing days, Iverson simply could not get away from its shadows. But he seems to not bother on this occasion.
Here’s what the former Rockets center said:
“When I heard that I would be the first speaker tonight, I thought somebody made a mistake. Don’t laugh because I think this spot belongs to the great Allen Iverson. You know why? Because I need more practice than him.”
It was a pleasant sight for everyone as Yao Ming got rid of butterflies in his stomach with that successful jab, and he proceeded with his heartfelt speech that still had some funny bits from time to time.
