The Minnesota Vikings were one of a handful of NFL teams that made news on “Black Monday” after news surfaced that the Vikings had fired head coach Mike Zimmer. The move was not unexpected. Reports had surfaced as the season wound down Minnesota might look to make a change.

Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells spoke with St. Paul Pioneer Press reporter Chris Tomasson. He gave his opinion on the firing of Zimmer, and it should leave Vikings fans worried heading into next season.

Parcells said that he was “disappointed” and that “the guy was well over .500 there. I might take the under on the next guy.”

The Vikings finished 8-9 this season, and missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season. However, they are two seasons removed from a NFC Divisional round berth, and four seasons removed from an NFC Championship appearance. The Vikings lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship in 2017. They were also the only team that has played well against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers under Zimmer's watch.

During his tenure with the Vikings, Rodgers is only 7-6-1 vs Zimmer. He also finished 72-56-1 as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings over his seven seasons there.

There were thoughts in the sports stratosphere that Zimmer's message had grown stale. The defensive-minded head coach led a team whose defense had only got worse the last few seasons.

Finding a replacement with a proven track record that of Zimmer's will prove to be difficult. But knowing Zimmer was part of Bill Parcells' coaching tree, one can understand where his take is somewhat biased.
