Magic: The Gathering returns to The Forgotten Realms with another Commander Legends set. Here's the Battle for Baldur's Gate Release Date is.

Commander Legends Battle for Baldur's Gate Release Date: June 10, 2022

Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate is coming out on June 10, 2022, kicking off with a Prerelease Weekend on June 3-5, 2022.

Battle for Baldur's Gate is the second Commander Legends set and the second overall set with the Dungeons & Dragons brand set in The Forgotten Realms. As a Commander Set, Battle for Baldur's Gate differs from Magic: The Gathering's usual expansions in a couple of ways. First of all, the expansion focuses on pushing out cards for the Commander Format. While the cards will work in a couple of other formats, the game design around the cards in the set is made with the Commander Format in mind. Secondly, drafting the set works differently compared to other sets.

Commander or Elder Dragon Highlander (EDH) is a 100-card deck Singleton Format, meaning you can only have one copy of each card in your deck. One of your Legendary Creature cards is elected as your deck's Commander, which is placed outside of your deck and can be played as if it's in your hand. All of the cards in your deck must share at least one color of your Commander's color identity. Commander is a format that is usually played with four players and is a popular casual format for Magic players.

Drafting a Commander Set has slightly different rules compared to other sets. Instead of just one, players pick two cards from each pack before passing the rest of the cards to the next player. Players then build a 60-card deck. All Commander rules still apply in play, except for the Singleton rule. Players may always use one or more Faceless Ones as a commander, even if they didn't draft one.

Both new and returning mechanics appear in Battle for Baldur's Gate. Be familiar with the following mechanics before the Battle for Baldur's Gate Release Date:

  • Adventure – Casting the Adventure half of a card represents sending the creature on an adventure before putting it onto the battlefield. When the adventure resolves, the card is exiled. When exiled as part of the resolution, the creature may be cast from exile.
  • Dice Rolling – Some cards have effects that have different rules depending on the results of a dice roll.
  • Goad – Goad causes a creature to be goaded until a player’s next turn. A goaded creature has to attack a player (not a planeswalker) other than you if it can. The controller of a goaded creature still chooses who the creature attacks. If the creature can't attack a player other than you, then it must attack you or a planeswalker if it can. This is most likely when the game is down to two players.
  • Myriad – Whenever a creature with myriad attacks, its controller may create token copies of that creature for each other opponent, which are exiled at the end of combat. Those tokens may also attack planeswalkers controlled by the corresponding player.
  • Flavor Words – Used to represent themed actions, character feats or magic, or monster abilities, instead of grouping similarly functioning cards.
  • Dungeon – Dungeons are like Planes and Conspiracies during the game. They are actual cards, but they don’t go in your deck. They start outside the game and are played in the command zone. In games held under tournament conditions, “cards from outside the game” means cards from your sideboard, but dungeons don't take up sideboard slots. You always have access to all three dungeons, and you'll never need more than one of the same one. The Forgotten Realms Dungeons do not make a return. If you venture into the dungeon using a card from Forgotten Realms, you can't choose to start the Undercity dungeon. However, if you're already in the Undercity dungeon, you will move your marker to the next room in Undercity.
  • Initiative – Similar to Monarch , the game starts with no one having the Initiative, but only one player at a time can have Initiative. Players can play cards that can give them the Initiative, and each time they get the Initiative, they get to venture to the Undercity, the Dungeon for Battle for Baldur's Gate.
  • Background – Legendary Enchantments that can serve as an extra Commander if your primary Commander has the Choose the Background Mechanic.
  • Choose the Background – Select Legendary Permanents in the set has the Choose the Background mechanic, which allows players to have an additional Legendary Enchantment with the Background mechanic to be a secondary Commander.

When the Battle for Baldur's Gate Release Date come around, players will have the choice between a Pre-Release Pack, a Draft Booster Box, a Collector's Booster Box, a Bundle Box, or one among the four COmmander Pre-Constructed Decks to choose from. As Battle for Baldur's Gate is not part of the Standard Format, the set will be skipping the MtGA cycle.
