Danny Ainge has always been a fairly outspoken president of the Boston Celtics, like when he recently detailed the specific type of players that he and the organization target.
But now he has said something that does not make a lot of sense:
“I believe the extraordinary is possible, but I do not look at our team as a team that is a title contender.”
Ainge did add a qualifier, however:
“But like I always say, I think that it’s most important what they (the players & coaches) think. I hope they believe differently.”

Unless he's trying to get his players fired up in some sort of reverse psychology ploy, it may have been better for Ainge to refrain from giving his honest opinion. Not having confidence in your own team can certainly heard the players' own confidence.
As far as the players go, at least we know that Evan Turner does not agree with Ainge. He told Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald:
“I think we can beat anybody. It’s as simple as that. I mean, we have beat contenders… (Ainge) has been around for a long time and he's put together a championship contender team. So that's just a personal opinion. But that's why you play the games, you know?”
