Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic has found peace of mind. Recently, he signed a three-year $165 million contract extension.
Furthermore, he has reached a point where he's able to move on from the consequential trade from the Dallas Mavericks in February.
According to Dan Woike of The Athletic, Doncic, through his manager Lara Beth Seager, said three words to put a button on the trade.
“He's moved on” Seager said to The Athletic. Also, Woike wrote about how difficult it was for Doncic following the Lakers' loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the opening round of the playoffs.
He said Doncic was “mentally kind of exhausted from everything that happened.”
Meanwhile, Seager said that once Doncic went to Los Angeles, he was there for the long run.
“I think it was always known that, when Luka was traded here, it’s, ‘He’s here now,’” she said. “He wants to win where he is, and it’s important that he wins and that we’re working together with the team so we’re not waiting. His mindset has never been to hop around. His mindset is to win the championship.”
Luka Doncic's longevity with the Lakers
The trade from the Mavericks to the Lakers shook up everything. At the time, Doncic was seen as the face of the Mavericks, and his departure to the West Coast dashed those hopes.
However, once he arrived at the Lakers he found a place. His duo with LeBron James became something to marvel at with their mutual respect and vibrant chemistry.
During Doncic's press conference where he signed the contract, James facetimed him.
With the Lakers, Doncic averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists. It is obvious that Doncic has found a new home in Los Angeles.
Seager says he approaches it in the same way as a marriage.
“His mindset is to build where he is and to work together,” Seager said. “And as long as he’s signed with a team, it’s a marriage and you treat it like a marriage. And marriages have hard times and good times, but you’re loyal and you’re faithful to each other through it all.”
The Lakers will announce their preseason schedule later this month. Nonetheless, Doncic is here to stay.
