Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens says doctors have called Marcus Smart's eye infection one of the worst they've ever seen.

Smart has missed the last four games for Boston. Celtics president Danny Ainge says Smart has been “quarantined at home” due to his eye infection:

Smart has appeared in 20 games this season. He’s averaging 11.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists while shooting 38.7 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 87.9 percent from the free-throw line.

The Celtics are in second place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 18-7. They host the Detroit Pistons on Friday, a game they should be able to win even through Smart and small forward Gordon Hayward are out since the Pistons aren’t that good.

However, for the Celtics to go on a deep playoff run this season, they will need Smart in the lineup. He's the heart and soul of the team and does so many things that don't show up in the box score.

Smart is making $12,053,471 this season. He signed a four-year, $52 million contract with the Celtics in the summer of 2018.

With Kemba Walker leading the way, the vibes in Boston seem to be positive this season. Now, we just have to wait and see if that translates to wins come playoff time.
