The calendar is several months away from flipping to 2019, but people just could not stop themselves from discussing and forecasting what’s in store for the NBA in next year’s free agency period.

Kyrie Irving, in particular, has been a hot topic of late in Bristol, where ESPN polled some of its experts to see how they think the Boston Celtics point guard’s future will play out next summer.

The result should put smiles on the faces of most of New York Knicks fans, with 46.9 percent of panelists predicting that the shifty court general is headed to Gotham in 2019.

Irving has two more seasons of guaranteed salary left, but he can choose not to pick up his player option with the Celtics for the 2019-20 season. The Knicks, on the other hand, have enough financial leg room next year to offer Irving a max contract, but it’s still up to the point guard whether he’d choose to play there over any other team.

Nevertheless, a potential 1-2 punch of Kyrie Irving and Kristaps Porzingis must make Knicks fans giddy. Speaking of Porzingis, if the Knicks have any plans of pairing him up with Irving for years to come, they will have to decide soon on a contract extension.

Kyrie Irving is expected to play in Boston’s season opener for the 2018-19 season after missing the tail end of the last regular season and the entire playoffs after undergoing a knee surgery in March. In his first season with the Celtics, Irving averaged 24.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in 60 games.
