The Kansas City Chiefs knew there was going to be chance that they would have to release cornerback Mark Fields on Saturday. Instead, Kansas City is sending Fields to the Minnesota Vikings in a trade, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Following the 2019 NFL Draft, the Chiefs signed Fields as an undrafted rookie out of Clemson. At Clemson, Fields totaled 39 tackles, 11 deflections, and one interception.

In the four games he played in during the preseason, the rookie cornerback tallied four tackles and a pass deflection. Despite his lack of tape, the Vikings became interested in the young defensive back and made a move to acquire him.

The Vikings are currently thin in their secondary due to injuries and suspensions. Mike Hughes is working his way back from injury while Holton Hill will begin the season with an eight-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

Therefore, the move for Fields will provide them will some depth while they continue to get some of their key contributors back on the field. The Vikings are probably looking to the future as well with Xavier Rhodes continuing to descend and Trae Waynes being inconsistent.

For the Chiefs, it's impressive that they were able to land a draft pick for an undrafted rookie in Fields. There was a chance that the undrafted rookie would've made the roster but why wouldn't you take a draft pick in return for him?

It remains to be seen if Minnesota has a plan for Fields on their roster but the Chiefs seem to have made a remarkable move on cut day.
