Making it all the way to the conference finals this year and owning the top pick in the draft, the Boston Celtics are in a good position to further improve their already-strong roster. While many believe that they will select Washington standout Markelle Fultz, their President of Basketball Operations has made it known that they are open to accepting offers from other teams as well.

During an interview with Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach, Danny Ainge admitted that there are a “handful” of teams showing interest in trading for their asset. He also added that they have yet to decide who they’ll take, should they keep their pick, but are now weighing all their options and looking for the best possible scenario.

“Ainge said he has yet to identify the prospect he would select. And, most importantly, he is prepared to sift through all options that come from being in such a prized position. He said “a handful of teams” has already expressed interest in acquiring the No. 1 choice from the Celtics, and those suitors are probably just getting started.”

With the emergence of Isaiah Thomas as an elite player in the league, their decision in adding Fultz to their lineup will depend on how good a fit he would be with the team. They also need to assess if he can thrive playing alongside the two-time All-Star point guard, who likes to have the ball in his hands. However, if the Celtics feels that Fultz will not be able to compliment Thomas' game, they might opt to trade the pick for a proven star, who can contribute to their cause and help them win a championship soon.

The situation in Boston is definitely an interesting one. Should they ultimately decide to trade the first overall pick, they would follow the footsteps of the Cleveland Cavaliers, who also did the same back in 2014, and are now reaping the rewards of their bold move.
