In an unusual story, experienced NBA guard Devin Harris fought a nagging injury commonly known as ‘turf toe’ towards the end of last season.
At the Dallas Mavericks‘ training camp on Thursday, Harris spoke to Eddie Sefko of The Dallas Morning News and revealed the extent of the injury.
“Remember when I had the turf toe before the Houston series? I tore all the ligaments in my toe. Those ligaments torn, [toe] came over, so they had to pin it, pulled it back.”
Due to the gruesome injury, Harris has spent most of the recent offseason in a state of rehabilitation.
“I haven’t done anything at 100%” said Harris. “I will do some contact stuff tomorrow [Friday].”
Harris was then asked about by reporters what he thinks his role will be and if it will be the same as last year.
“I would have to assume so, but then again, he’s [Rick Carlisle] the boss…I’m comfortable with it. Been that way since I’ve been here. Roll with it.”
The Mavericks will largely play the 33-year-old as a combo guard throughout the forthcoming 2016-2017 season and the organization will surely hope that he serves as a veteran leader for some of the younger guards.
