Miami Heat's new acquisition Victor Oladipo made his much-awaited debut with the team and it could have gone so much better. In Miami's Thursday matchup with the Golden State Warriors, he finished with six points, three boards, five dimes, and a pair of steals in 23 minutes of action.

One reason for the low minutes is that Oladipo had almost the same number of points and fouls with five in what proved to be a physical contest. He had active hands the whole time he was on the floor, which helped lead to the fouls, but also the steals.

Oladipo is a good defender, has good size for the position, and is still athletic, although his injuries have slowed him down to an extent. At a well-built 6'4, 213 pounds with a long wingspan, he can seamlessly switch on guards and wings.

As good as Oladipo is he has tendencies to go on inefficient scoring streaks and this was the case in his debut. He shot two out of eight from the field, two out of five from the charity stripe, and missed all four of his attempts from distance. Obviously, this is an outlier for Oladipo, but he is prone to games with bad percentages. On another note, he did have this sweet dunk.

Once he has gelled with his teammates in Miami, there is reason to believe that he will be more efficient. Using his slashing ability and the presence of shooters Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson and a vertical threat in center Bam Adebayo, he will be a more efficient scorer. The spacing provided by the team should open up lanes for a driving Oladipo.

Oladipo was never known for his playmaking, but he did a good job with his five dimes. With his more talented Heat teammates, there will be several opportunities each game for Oladipo to log key assists. The team is also one of the better passing teams in the league.

Grade: D

With all of that said, Oladipo's grade would be a D. Being an active defender is good, but overdoing it means racking up fouls and sitting on the bench. Perhaps he was excited to be on a contender. Oladipo needs to learn to play within the flow of the offense to help avoid cold shooting streaks.

The bar was set low on his debut, but Oladipo can easily clear it in the next few games. When healthy and engaged, he can make the Heat more than just a dark horse contender.
