Goran Dragic's spot as the Miami Heat's starting point guard may be on the line in the upcoming 2019-20 season. As such, the Slovenian is going to jockey for the spot — the same mindset he carries every year.

Last season, Dragic's campaign was derailed by an injured right knee. The 33-year-old went under the needle and subsequently missed a ton of games for the Heat, played in just a total of 36 games (22) starts.

During his absence, Justise Winslow took over the starting guard duties. He did pretty well, which now puts Dragic's role as the team's starting guard in peril. Though Dragic admits he's going to do his best to get the job back, the Slovenian floor general knows that it's the coach who's in full control.

“For me, it’s the same approach. I’m going to fight it,” Dragic said when asked if he still views himself as the Heat’s starting point guard, per Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald. “I’m going to do my job. That’s it. At the end of the day, coach decides who’s going to play, who’s going to start. The only thing I can control is my preparation and how I play games and how I practice.”

Earlier in the summer, Dragic exercised his player option worth $19.2 million — the last season of his five-year deal worth $85 million.

It's been an interesting offseason for the Slovenian guard. At one point, the Heat almost traded him away. However, that deal didn't push through and he's now back, recovered from surgery and out to prove that he's still of great value to the organization.
