The list of NBA stars not playing for Team USA this summer seems to longer than the list of players who are playing. DeMarcus Cousins is in, and so is Paul George, but many others have opted not to participate in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Isaiah Thomas of the Boston Celtics is another story. The small point guard tweeted his desire to join the Rio roster this week, but acknowledged his size is a limiting factor:

With Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, and Chris Paul all deciding not to play, the point guard position is wide open for Thomas to replace them. However, Damian Lillard and Kyrie Irving are likely interested in earning a spot of their own.

Thomas averaged a career-best 22.2 points this season while dishing 6.2 assists per game, and would certainly be a capable point guard should managing director Jerry Colangelo decide to give him a shot.
