Bill Self is one tricky fella. Despite recently saying he might retire when his contract is up, the Kansas Jayhawks coach is still landing top prospects on the recruiting trail. David McCormack, out of the 2018 talent pool, is the latest to announce his decision to join the program.

David McCormack is a top-50 talent according to most reputable scouting service websites.

Playing at the famed Oak Hill Academy and with Team Loaded on the Adidas circuit, McCormack has consistently improved and shown a tremendous ability to rebound and move for his size.

For whatever it is worth, the knock on Bill Self being unwilling to play freshmen isn't entirely accurate. It is just that those freshmen need to be game-ready, is all. McCormack is considered a kid with one of those generic motors that never quits. He should be just fine.

Recently, Self discussed the idea of retiring really early.

“I’ve said all along that if I could go to my late 50s, that’d be good for me,” Bill Self said to Medcalf. “Now that I’m getting close to my late 50s, I’m like, ‘Well…’ but my contract runs until I’m 59, so I’ve got five more years left. I definitely want to do that. Then whatever happens after that I’d be happy with whatever. But I don’t want to [coach too late].”

Apparently, even with Self mulling the idea of retirement, it does not matter. Death. Taxes. And Bill Self doing things that will keep Kansas on top of the Big 12 Conference.
