A timely update has just been provided on the injury of New York Knicks big man Mitchell Robinson. According to a news report, the 22-year-old's surgery on his fractured right hand came without a hitch.

This report comes via the Knicks on Twitter:

Robinson injured his hand on February 12 against the Washington Wizards. He was actually having arguably his best game of the season before he was forced to exit, putting up a 10-point, 14-rebound double-double in just 20 minutes of action.

That pretty much sums up how New York's season has been thus far. Actually, that's how things have been for them over the past several years. Whenever things start to look up, something terrible always seems to come out of nowhere.

The good news for the Knicks is that they've actually fared relatively well this season — certainly much better than they have in years past. New York is currently well within the playoff picture in a wide-open Eastern Conference (when was the last time you heard that?). With a 14-15 record, the Knicks are sitting at the sixth seed in the East.

To put that in perspective, New York currently has a better record than the Toronto Raptors (12-15) and the Miami Heat (11-16). Is it way too early to say that the Knicks might be making a playoff push this term?

Whatever the case may be, they will need to navigate the next few weeks without Robinson. He was initially diagnosed to be out for the next= four to six weeks — a timetable that remains the same after his successful surgery — which means that he could be out up until late-March.
