The 22-year-old center sustained the injury after accidentally colliding with the elbow of his Knicks teammate in Julius Randle. After the incident, Robinson was visibly hurt as he made his way to the locker rooms.
He finished the game with 10 points and 14 rebounds in 20 minutes of action for the Knicks. Amid his absence, Randle stepped up and produced 24 points and 18 rebounds while rookie Immanuel Quickly added 16 points of his own.
The Knicks found themselves matching up against a Bradley Beal-less Wizards side that was led by Russell Westbrook. The enigmatic point guard finished with a near triple-double output of 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 10 assists.
Strong execution down the stretch was key for the New York-based squad as they grabbed the 109-91 victory. The win lifted the team to a 12-15 record for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference.
The third-year pro has been a key part of the Knicks' rotation this season and is currently tallying averages of 8.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in 27 games played as a starter.
Mitchell Robinson's injury will be re-evaluated in the coming days and hopefully be given a proper timetable for his return to action. Without him, the Knicks will still look to make their playoff push as they host the skidding Houston Rockets on Feb. 13.
