Sound the alarm; New York Knicks fans didn't boo their draft pick this season. How could they when the pick was Duke small forward RJ Barrett, who is arguably the best pure scorer in this year's draft class.

Knicks fans cheered for Barrett when he was selected with the third overall pick. The lefty said it was “great” to hear the fans chant his name and he's excited to get to work.

Barrett wanted to be drafted by the Knicks all along. Of course, New York fans were hoping for Zion Williamson, but Barrett isn't a bad consolation prize.

At Duke this past college season, Barrett averaged 22.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists while shooting 45.4 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from beyond the arc and 66.5 percent from the free-throw line. Barrett is now the face of the Knicks franchise, a burden the swingman is embracing and not shying away from. To play in New York, you have to be tough mentally and physically. Barrett appears to fit that bill.

The Knicks have been a walking disaster for years under the ownership of James Dolan.

New York has cap space this offseason to sign two max contract players, but it looks like Kyrie Irving is headed to the Brooklyn Nets, while Durant is expected to miss the entire 2019-20 season, which means next season is all about RJ Barrett.
