The New York Knicks have long been rumored to be eyeing Dallas Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson in free agency. If they fail to lure him away from the Mavs, however, they have another target in their mind.

According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Knicks are widely expected to pursue Malcolm Brogdon if their bid for Brunson doesn't work. The team has been linked with Kyrie Irving as well, but it doesn't seem like they have interest in the Brooklyn Nets guard.

For what it's worth, the Indiana Pacers appear to be determined to move Brogdon as they look to rebuild and get their younger guys more playing time.

Should New York ultimately fall short in its efforts to lure Brunson away from the Dallas Mavericks, Malcolm Brogdon is widely expected to be the Knicks’ next point guard target this offseason, sources told B/R, not the splashier headline name that is Kyrie Irving.

The Pacers have most consistently discussed Brogdon trades with the Knicks and Wizards ahead of Thursday’s NBA draft, sources said, but there’s a strong sense of skepticism from league officials that Brogdon would actually be moved to either Washington or New York in a package centered around the No. 10 or No. 11 pick.

It remains to be seen if the Knicks can sign Jalen Brunson, especially since the young playmaker and scorer can sign for more money with the Mavs. But considering the uncertainty about trading for Malcolm Brogdon as well, free agency might be a little difficult for New York.

For now, Knicks fans can only hope that things work in their favor in a bid to rebuild the franchise and return to playoff contention at the least.
