After Kyle Filipowski fell out of the first round, a clip went viral online of the big man being comforted by his significant other, as the center was the rare green room invite not to be drafted on day one. The clip was nothing out of the ordinary, but then the story of Filipowski and his fiancée took a turn.
A clip from the Lowe Post podcast went viral that explained one of the reasons Filipowski fell in the draft was allegedly because of his fiancée (who was identified as his girlfriend in the podcast). Jonathan Givony reported that the love interest, who was eventually identified online as Caitlin Hutchison, was much older at 25 years old, that the two's relationship estranged the Duke product from his family and created a lot of question marks during the pre-draft process.
Twitter users identifying as Filipowski's family members responded to the viral clip and stated that Hutchison is actually 28 years old. It was reported that the reason for his fall out with the family was because the two started dating when Filipowski was still in high school as a part of his partner's plan to get married after the center finished his time at Duke.
None of these sources are verified, and that being the reason for Filipowski's draft day fall is complete speculation. However, Hutchison's Instagram does indicate that the two are now engaged.
