Despite the major hype coming out of UCLA and being drafted with the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA Draft, fate has not been kind to rookie Lonzo Ball this season.

Besides dealing with injuries in his first year in the league, the 6-foot-6 point guard is mired in one of the absolute worst shooting seasons in history for a player in his first season in the league.

Last night against the New Orleans Pelicans, Ball posted another record for futility, joining former Los Angeles Lakers point man Nick Van Exel as the only rookies to ever miss 11 3-pointers in a game, according to Justin Kubatko of StatMuse.

Ball went an awful 1-of-12 against the Pelicans from beyond the arc, as part of his 2-of-15 performance from the field.

Head coach Luke Walton had told Ball that he wanted to see more aggression from him during his time on the floor, but that aggression came in the way of bricks by the rookie point guard, who was out-dueled by Rajon Rondo — a known reluctant 3-point shooter, who finished with a season-high 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field, 1-of-3 from deep, along with 10 assists and three steals.

Van Exel wasn't known for his efficiency during his 13-year career in the league, hovering around 40 percent from the field, but it took him until his last game as a rookie against the Utah Jazz to miss 11 threes, finishing 3-of-16 from deep on Apr. 24, 1994.

Ball's shooting woes have been from all over the place this season, shooting a ghastly 35.1 percent from the field, 30.5 from deep, and 46.2 percent from the foul line, making him largely inefficient as a scorer in this league.
