After an improbable run through the March Madness, Saint Peter's captured the hearts of college basketball fans across the nation. Unfortunately for the basketball program, there are some big changes coming next year. After head coach Shaheen Holloway announced he'd be joining Seton Hall, star guard Doug Edert revealed his intentions of entering the transfer portal ahead of the 2022-23 season, via Joe Tipton of On3.

“I want to start by thanking my family, friends, coaches, teammates and Peacock Nation for an amazing three years at Saint Peter’s University,” Edert said in a statement via On3. “I have nothing but love for everyone who has been by my side throughout my journey. With that being said, I have entered the transfer portal. I’m excited for what is to come and looking forward to exploring other opportunities for my basketball career.”

Edert rose to prominence along with the rest of the Peacocks during their March Madness run, which featured the stunning upset of No. 2 seed Kentucky in the opening round of play. He scored 20 points off the bench in Saint Peter's surprise victory and carried his strong play over throughout the rest of the NCAA Tournament. Edert averaged 11.3 points per game throughout March Madness and added 3.5 rebounds per night.

His success in March landed him NIL deals with companies including Buffalo Wild Wings and Barstool Sports, and now he's set to expand on his basketball career too, hoping to land at a more prominent program for next season. It remains to be seen where he'll suit up in 2022-23, but there should be significant interest in one of the most intriguing players to make a name for themselves during the NCAA Tournament.
