If a player is the type who likes respawning creatures from the dead, then the MTG Graveyard Overdrive preconstructed commander deck is something they might want to look into. Mainly led by Disa the Restless, Graveyard Overdrive aims to return all creatures from the graveyard to the battlefield. The question now is, how exactly can the precon deck do such a thing?

MTG Graveyard Overdrive Commander Deck

Graveyard Overdrive will come out in two variants in the Modern Horizons 3 set. Consumers can either purchase the regular precon or the Collector's Edition. Depending on which local game store they purchase it in, players can get the regular precon for about $70. Meanwhile, the Collector's Edition will more or less cost $170. It's worth noting that the prices will vary on the market's demand and availability of supplies.

Commanders

MTG Graveyard Overdrive will come out with two commanders.

Disa the RestlessDisa the Restless, MTG Graveyard Overdrive

Disa the Restless is the primary commander of the Graveyard Overdrive precon. She makes bringing the dead back possible in multiple instances. For example, suppose a mill deck forces Disa's controller to put X cards from the top of the library to the graveyard. In that case, the Lhurgoyf permanents entering the graveyard will go to the battlefield instead. Self-milling could be a good strategy to use her first ability efficiently. Disa can also go wide by creating a plethora of Tarmogoyf creature tokens depending on if the controller can consistently deal combat damage each turn.

Coram, the Undertaker

Coram, the Undertaker is a good pairing for Disa the Restless. He has an attack trigger that has each player milling one card. Assuming that Disa's controller is running a Lhurgoyf tribal deck, the chances of those milled cards entering the battlefield instead are high. Plus, if the player isn't running a Lhurgoyf tribal, they can always cast spells or play lands among the milled cards put into the graveyard that turn thanks to Coram's third ability.

New Cards in the MTG Graveyard Overdrive Deck

In addition to the two commanders, there are 13 other brand-new precon commander deck-exclusive cards coming out.

PyrogoyfPyrogoyf, MTG Graveyard Overdrive

Pyrogoyf is a Lhurgoyf creature whose power and toughness act similarly to the ability of a Tarmogoyf creature token. It can be a powerful card depending on the power level of the next Lhurgoyf creature that enters the battlefield. Controllers can ping any target for X damage where X is the power of the entering Lhurgoyf. Ideally, players would want to focus on dealing damage to players or annoying creatures that are difficult to get rid of.

Barrowgoyf

Barrowgoyf is the perfect creature for self-milling. As long as Barrowgoyf can deal combat damage to a player, the controller can self-mill several cards equal to the power of the creature. This will quickly get Lhurgoyf creatures out to the battlefield for as long as Disa the Restless remains. The best part of this creature card is that it has Deathtouch and Lifelink. Opponents might be reluctant to block Barrowgoyf especially if they only have key pieces as their blockers.

PolygoyfPolygoyf, MTG Graveyard Overdrive

Polygoyf is a decent card to have on the battlefield when declaring attackers due to its Myriad ability. Given how it also has Trample, it's best to add as many +1/+1 counters as one can to maximize its full capabilities.

Tarmogoyf Nest

The name of the card speaks for itself. Tarmogoyf Nest is an Enchantment spell that enchants a land to become a nest to create Tarmogoyf tokens. For one generic and one green, players can tap the enchanted land to spawn tokens.

Gluttonous HellkiteGluttonous Hellkite, MTG Graveyard Overdrive

Gluttonous Hellkite doesn't synergize with Graveyard Overdrive but it's still a great card when trying to get rid of other creatures. Depending on how much the controller pays fo X, each player needs to sacrifice X creatures. Gluttonous Hellkite will gain two +1/+1 counters for each sacrificed creature. If by any chance the controller is struggling with their board state, casting this Dragon is a great way to catch up and possibly gain an advantage.

Exterminator Magmarch

Exterminator Magmarch is literally the definition of hitting two birds with one stone. If for example, the controller casts an instant or sorcery that targets an opponent's permanent, they can copy that spell and choose another target permanent that another opponent controls. In other words, the controller can piss off two of their opponents at once.

Sawhorn NemesisSawhorn Nemesis, MTG Graveyard Overdrive

Sawhorn Nemesis is the perfect card to take out the biggest threat on the board. As it enters the battlefield, the controller chooses a player. Whenever players deal any kind of damage to the chosen player, that player receives double damage instead. A little politics will surely come into play with this creature card.

Bloodbraid Challenger

Bloodbrain Challenger is pretty straightforward. It's a 4/3 creature with Cascade and Haste. It can also return to the battlefield from the graveyard thanks to its Escape ability.

Infested ThrinaxInfested Thrinax, MTG Graveyard Overdrive

Infested Thrinax is a good card to make sure that opposing players suffer when they try destroying one's big creature. Hypothetically, the controller has a 20/20 creature. If an opponent targets that creature to destroy it, the controller can cast Infested Thrinax in response before the big creature dies. Doing so will have that controller create 20 1/1 green Saproling creature tokens instead.

Broodmate Tyrant

Broodmate Tyrant is another straightforward card in the Graveyard Overdrive deck. It's a 5/5 creature with Flying and can spawn another 5/5 Dragon with Flying as it enters the battlefield. Then it has an encore ability that costs five generic, one black, one red, and one green.

Tempt with MayhemTempt with Mayhem, MTG Graveyard Overdrive

If a player is the type to cause chaos and destruction, Tempt with Mayhem is an appropriate card to cast. The spell has a Tempting Offer trigger which means the caster can copy a target instant or sorcery spell but can also create a certain number of extra copies for each player who decides to copy the targeted spell.

Final Act

A new board wipe is coming to Graveyard Overdrive. Final Act allows players to choose all options such as destroy all creatures, Planeswalkers, battles, exile all graveyards, and each opponent loses all counters.

Siege-Gang LieutenantSiege-Gang Lieutenant, MTG Graveyard Overdrive

Siege-Gang Lieutenant is a good card to slowly reduce an opponent's life. The creature creates two 1/1 Goblin tokens with haste at the beginning of combat during the controller's turn. It may not seem like at first, but its second ability is what deals the most damage. For two generic mana, controllers can sacrifice a Goblin and deal 1 damage to any target. It's a good combo piece to have for other cards that have damage triggers. Goblin tribal deck owners can also make use of this card.

Notable Reprints

While new cards are always something to look forward to in a new set, some reprints are also worth anticipating as they could range from difficult-to-find cards and expensive cards in the market. Here are some of the notable reprints coming to MTG Graveyard Overdrive.

The Reaver CleaverThe Reaver Cleaver, MTG Graveyard Overdrive

The Reaver Cleaver is an Artifact Equipment that's good for generating Treasure tokens. It's best to attach it to bigger creatures to maximize the number of Treasures the controller can create. This card goes for as much as $21. Having this reprinted in the precon deck is a bang for the buck.

Selvala, Heart of the Wilds

Selvala, Heart of the Wilds is a useful card to have in a deck. Her most notable ability is the tapped one. For one green mana, the controller can add X mana in any combination of colors where X is the greatest power among creatures they control. Hypothetically, they had a 20/20 creature, that's easily 20 floating mana of any color in exchange for one green mana. Selvala goes for as much as $37, proving to be a steal given how the card will be in the precon.

Archon of Cruelty

If a player's goal is to annoy the opponent, Archon of Cruelty is the most appropriate card to do so in the precon. Once the Archon enters the battlefield or attacks, target opponents are forced to sacrifice a creature, discard a card in hand, and lose three life.
