The Boston Celtics are paying tribute to one of their best players in recent history. Kevin Garnett will be honored for his contributions to the franchise by having his number-five jersey retired.

Garnett helped the Celtics win their most recent championship in the 2007-08 season. He played in Boston for six seasons, winning the Defensive Player of the Year Award and making five All-Star teams. He averaged 15.1 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.

The festivities for Garnett started in the second quarter. Jaylen Brown threw down a nasty slam dunk right on top of Dallas Mavericks forward Maxi Kleber. He dapped Garnett up afterward while the Celtics fans in TD Garden roared.

Brown is one of the better poster artists in the NBA. The Celtics star has dunked on plenty of players like LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo (several times). He is averaging 23.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 45.9 percent from the field and 34.1 percent from 3-point land.

Although Garnett played most of his career for the Minnesota Timberwolves, he will go down as a Boston legend. He spoke very humbly about the honor. He was the heart and soul of a very good era of Boston Celtics teams and is being rightfully rewarded for it.

Boston is fifth in the Eastern Conference and will look to continue climbing up the standings.
