Lonzo Ball's return from offseason surgery is a slow process. Luke Walton and the Los Angeles Lakers don't want to rush Ball back before he's 100 percent. Earlier Wednesday, Walton said there was a chance Ball could start his season against the Sacramento King on Thursday and play “very limited” minutes.

Now, it appears that won't happen. Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times writes:

Lonzo Ball will not play tomorrow when the Lakers face the Sacramento Kings at Staples Center, per source. He will be evaluated Thursday and remains day to day to return.

The speculation that Ball would make his return on Thursday against the Sacramento Kings proved to be too optimistic. Lonzo haters will probably say that he's avoiding De'Aaron Fox once again, but Ball has a legitimate excuse.

Lakers fans will have to wait just a little longer before they get to watch the dynamic 6-foot-6 point guard. With so much turnover on the roster, it's important for Ball to play at some point in the preseason, but his health will take priority over developing chemistry.

Rajon Rondo, LeBron James, Michael Beasley, Lance Stephenson, and JaVale McGee are all new additions to the roster. The veteran leadership this group brings will help Ball's overall development.

That being said, it will be interesting to see how Ball plays alongside Rondo and James. All three play a similar brand of basketball. They facilitate the offense and are at their best when they are making their teammates better. Ball's return will make headlines and fans will finally get the chance to see him share the court with his new teammates.
