There are few more controversial issues in the NBA today than the league's take-foul policy. In a press conference on Friday, league commissioner Adam Silver revealed that he expects a major change in this respect in the near future.
A take-foul play is defined by a defender intentionally fouling an opposing player to prevent a scoring opportunity in transition. It has been highly criticized and it is clear that the NBA has been listening:
“I am confident that we’ll see a change,” Silver said, via The Associated Press. “I would not say I’m overconfident that it will be the last change, even though this is a rule that we’ve been experimenting with in the G League for last four years.”

The main issue about the take-foul is that it pretty much negates one team's fastbreak opportunity. The commissioner, however, is ready to put his foot down on this issue.
“I always say to people, including on this potential change in take fouls, if there was something that was obvious it would have happened long ago,” Silver said. “There’s pros and cons to everything we do. This is a change I’m very much in favor of, and from all the research we’ve looked at, it’s something our fans really want too.”
This might be a minor rule, but this could actually have a significant impact on the flow of a game. Hopefully, Adam Silver is able to deliver on his commitment next season.
