Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets basketball coach Josh Pastner doesn’t have to worry about where will he get money to feed his family in 2022. This is after Georgia Tech inked Pastner to a one-year extension deal that effectively prolonged his tenure as coach of the team until the 2022-2023 season according to Ken Sugiura of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Pastner originally signed a six-year contract with Georgia Tech in 2016 but the school apparently felt the need to lock up the coach longer after seeing Pastner guide the Yellow Jackets to a 21-16 overall record in the previous season.
While the program wasn’t able to get an invite to the NCAA Tournament, the Yellow Jackets deserved a long look from the selection committee as their resume sported huge wins over North Carolina, Florida State, and Notre Dame – all Top 25 teams at the time Georgia Tech beat them.

Before handling coaching duties at Georgia Tech, Pastner spent seven seasons calling the shots from the sidelines for the Memphis Tigers, steering the program to four NCAA Tournament appearances during that span. He wasn’t John Calipari, but he fared better than what most expected of him in Memphis. He’ll try to exceed expectations again, this time with the Yellow Jackets.
Now that expectations have been raised within the program, thanks to Pastner exceeding the original ones in great haste, it will be interesting to see what happens next for the ACC program.
