The NHL has announced that three teams will be forced to postpone future games due to the league's recent COVID-19 outbreak. These teams include the Colorado Avalanche, the Florida Panthers, and the Calgary Flames. This is according to the NHL Public Relations Twitter account, that tweeted the news Friday afternoon.

According to the statement, “the Colorado Avalanche's and Florida Panthers' games will also be postponed at least through the scheduled completion of the League's Holiday Break in the schedule on Dec. 26.” The Avalanche has placed multiple players on their COVID-19 list, including goalie Darcy Kuemper and left winger Andre Burakovsky. The Panthers' COVID-19 list includes many players, such as centre Sam Bennett and defenseman Aaron Ekblad.

As for the Flames, the league has “extended the period of game postponements for the Calgary Flames through their game previously scheduled for Dec. 23 against Seattle.” The Flames are also dealing with a hefty COVID-19 list, including their star left winger, Johnny Gaudreau. He is expected to be out until at least December 27.

The NHL, as well as the NBA and the NFL, has been dealing with an overwhelming amount of COVID-19 cases recently. This is mostly due to the rapid spread of Omicron, a variant of the virus that is quickly becoming dominant in the United States.
