There is a lot of buzz regarding the Carolina Hurricanes potentially trading Martin Necas this offseason, and the Boston Bruins are a team that has been rumored as interested, with goalie Linus Ullmark as a potential name that the Hurricanes could be interested in, according to Shane Seney of NHL Trade Rumors.

The idea of a Martin Necas-Linus Ullmark trade was brought up on the 32 Thoughts podcast, which is hosted by insider Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek. The Bruins and Hurricanes reportedly discussed a potential Ullmark trade ahead of this year's trade deadline, according to Friedman and Marek.

This is a trade that would make sense for both sides. The Hurricanes exited this year's playoffs losing in six games to the New York Rangers, and goaltending is part of what did them in. Frederick Andersen started five out of the six games, and he had been a part of the Hurricanes in prior seasons when they were Stanley Cup contenders, but did not get over the hump. In the Rangers series, the Hurricanes turned to rookie Pyotr Kochetkov in Game 3, so the faith in Frederick Andersen is not very strong in Carolina.

Martin Necas has been floated in trade rumors before, but nothing came to fruition for the Hurricanes, and now he is scheduled to be a restricted free agent. With a number of free agents for the Hurricanes, it is unknown whether or not they will be able to afford Necas, and it has been made clear that Necas might want a change of scenery.

How would Martin Necas fit with the Bruins?

A trade to the Bruins would provide that, and with Boston having nine unrestricted free agents this summer, the organization likely would be able to fit him in. Necas was most often on the third line as a right winger with Jack Drury as his center and Jordan Martinook as the left wing. It has been reported that Necas was not happy with a third line role with the Hurricanes, although the team envisions him taking on a bigger role if they do keep him next season.

With the Bruins, Necas could potentially take on a bigger role. Boston has David Pastrnak as its first line right winger, and Necas would definitely not leapfrog him in the lineup. However, Necas conceivably could take over Trent Frederic's spot on the second line, and that would give him more of a chance to thrive offensively, potentially playing on a line with Brad Marchand and Charlie Coyle.

These two teams have talked, and there might be framework for a potential deal set already based on the conversations that took place back at the trade deadline. One way or another, both the Hurricanes and Bruins will likely look different going into next season.
