The Chicago Blackhawks were the darlings of the NHL not too long ago, but the organization's reputation has gone down the drain thanks in large part to the Kyle Beach sexual assault investigation that resulted in the resignation of general manager Stan Bowman last year. Kyle Davidson was elevated to interim GM, and now the decision has been made to give him the role on a full-time basis.

The Blackhawks will now rely on Davidson to help bring this franchise into the future and try to rebuild its reputation on and off the ice. In addition to the off-the-ice mess, Chicago has been awful on it as well. The Blackhawks are 19-27-8 and only have 46 points on the season, which is third-worst in the Western Conference ahead of only the expansion Seattle Kraken and the league-worst Arizona Coyotes.

The 33-year-old Davidson has been with the Blackhawks since 2010. Chairman Rocky Wirtz put out this statement on the decision:

“Kyle is one of the final pieces of this new executive team that will lead the Chicago Blackhawks into the next generation. He shares the vision of Danny, Jaime and I have to build a consistent winning team on and off the ice. We are committed to winning and winning the right way. Kyle's fresh lens, integrity, commitment, and knowledge of the game are all characteristics I believe make him the right person to structure the team on the ice. I appreciate the work that Danny, Jaime and the Advisory Committee did to lead this process and Kyle has my full support in his role as General Manager.”

There's a lot of work to be done to restore this franchise to its recent glory. We'll see if Kyle Davidson is the man for the job as he prepares for the March 21 trade deadline.
