The Florida Panthers have been one of the best hockey teams all season. On Thursday night, they accomplished another one of their goals in defeated the Detroit Red Wings, 5-2. With the win, the Panthers clinched the Atlantic Division and home ice advantage through the entire eastern conference playoffs.

That's a big deal for a team that is best in all of hockey at home. The Panthers are an astounding 33-6 at home this season. That is already the second most home-wins by any team in NHL history and they still have two more to play.

Not only have the Panthers been great all season, they are playing their best hockey as the playoffs approach. Thursday night was their 12th win in a row, tying a franchise record.

In Thursday's win, Panthers star Jonathan Huberdeau picked up two assists, tying Connor McDavid for the most points in the NHL with 113 (30 goals, 83 assists). Aleksander Barkov scored his team-leading 39th goal. The Panthers offense is downright ridiculous. They lead the NHL with 322 goals this season. That's the most by any team since the 1995-1996 season.

Prior to the NHL trade deadline, the Panthers got stronger as they acquired Claude Giroux. The former captain of the Philadelphia Flyers, has added depth to an already stacked roster.

The Panthers are now two points ahead of the Colorado Avalanche for the President's Trophy. That's given to the team with the best record in the regular season, thereby, earning home ice advantage throughout the playoffs. Both teams have five games remaining with Florida having 118 points to Colorado's 116.
