The New England Patriots recently fell to the Los Angeles Rams, in large part due to their nonexistent passing attack this season. Following New England's recent loss, Bill Belichick made a straight assessment of the Patriots' passing game, which is being led by Cam Newton, per Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal.

Earlier in the season, it looked as if the Patriots were getting a steal when they signed Newton to a one-year incentive-laden deal. New England began the season with a 2-1 record and their offense with Newton was showing some promise.

However, Newton would test positive for COVID-19 and the mobile quarterback hasn't been the same since. Throughout his 12 starts with the Patriots in 2020, Newton has failed to throw for more than 200 yards in nine of them and has only five touchdowns to 10 interceptions through the air.

On the other hand, Newton has rushed for 451 yards and 11 touchdowns, which is the most rushing touchdowns he's had since his rookie season in 2011. In Newton's defense, the Patriots still lack wide receivers that can create separation and the offensive line has endured a plethora of injuries.

Still, the former NFL MVP looks far from his usual self, struggling to throw the ball with consistency. Despite his struggles, Bill Belichick has remained adamant about Newton remaining as the starter at quarterback for the Patriots this season.

Whether it be New England or another team, Cam Newton is fighting to have an opportunity to start for an NFL team next season. But as of this moment, it seems as if the Patriots and Newton are going to be a one-and-done experiment.
