The New England Patriots parted ways with some key members of their offense from last season. They were hoping that their tremendous depth would help fill the voids left by players such as running back Dion Lewis and wide receiver Danny Amendola.

However, it has become clear that New England is not messing around when it comes to their receiving corps. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, they have decided to release wide receiver, Kenny Britt.

Sources: The Patriots are releasing WR Kenny Britt. A fairly big surprise given the expectations coming into camp.

Britt is the third notable wideout to be released from the Patriots thus far. The other two were wide receivers Jordan Matthews and Malcolm Mitchell. Reports out of camp suggest that all three players were having trouble finding their footing. With the regular season just around the corner, it seems New England was not going to waste its time trying to get them up to speed.

Regardless, Britt's departure still comes as a bit of a surprise. He got off to a rough start in minicamp after injuring his hamstring. The veteran acknowledged that he may have been falling behind after missing some time from the field. However, it clearly began to take its toll.

Britt has now been released by two teams over the last year. His last good season came when he somehow managed to top 1,000 yards with the Los Angeles Rams in the 2016 NFL season. Unfortunately, his recent stints with the Cleveland Browns and Patriots have done little to show teams he can still perform at a high level.
