New England Patriots star tight end Rob Gronkowski doesn't want to jump the gun by getting too excited about his team's acquisition of Josh Gordon.

“Yes, definitely. I mean, you can’t really worry about what’s going on,” Gronkowski told reporters. “I’ve got to really focus on what I’ve got to do too. And being here, there really isn’t too much excitement. So, I don’t know. … Getting excited is kind of scary.”

The Patriots traded a fifth-round pick to get Gordon from the Cleveland Browns after they finally decided to part ways with the fifth-year vet. Gordon has struggled with off-field problems for the entirety of his career, but it appears as if the Patriots believe their elite organization can reform him.

It's obvious that Gronkowski is the team's most dangerous weapon in the passing game. He has already established himself as one of the best tight ends to ever play the game, but he can't carry the offensive workload alone. Gronkowski had seven receptions for 123 yards and a score in their 27-20 victory over the Houston Texans in Week 1, but he was almost nonexistent in their Week 2 loss to the Jaguars, recording only 15 receiving yards for the game.

Gordon is a 27-year-old with tons of talent. If the Patriots can straighten him out, he will be a valuable deep threat that opens the field for Gronkowski and their slot receivers. Gordon suffered a hamstring injury last week, so he was limited in his first practice with his new team on Wednesday.

Reports say that Gordon is healthy enough to take the field against the Detroit Lions in Week 3. If he's available, the Patriots may experiment with playing him soon, even if it is just as a decoy for now.
