Jeff Green will initially sign a 10-day contract with the Houston Rockets, giving him a chance to become comfortable with the fit before committing to a deal for the rest of the season, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The Rockets are adding San Antonio Spurs buyout DeMarre Carroll and Green to bolster their defense in the wake of the Clint Capela trade. Houston now has PJ Tucker, Robert Covington, Carroll and Green as its wing defenders. Not bad.

Green averaged 7.8 points and 2.7 rebounds in 30 games for the Utah Jazz this season before getting cut. He shot 38.5 percent from the field, 32.7 percent from beyond the arc and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Green has career NBA averages of 13.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 890 games with the Oklahoma City ThunderBoston CelticsMemphis GrizzliesLos Angeles ClippersOrlando MagicCleveland CavaliersWashington Wizards and Jazz. He played with Rockets stars James Harden and Russell Westbrook in Oklahoma City.

The Rockets are 34-20 on the season. They are in fifth place in the Western Conference standings.
