Much was made about Kevin Durant passing 3-time Olympic gold medalist Carmelo Anthony on the all-time scoring list for Team USA basketball. But neither gentleman could hold a candle to the latest historic feat accomplished by their WNBA counterparts – Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird.

The two legends and surefire Hall-of-Famers locked in their fifth ever Olympic gold medal, a streak of dominance that's never been done in Olympic basketball history, man or woman.

The victory marks Team USA's seventh consecutive win in the women's basketball tournament, three more than the men's streak of four in a row. They didn't exactly have any scares either like their male counterparts, who lost their opening round match to France while also falling by as much as 15 in their semi-final game against Australia.

Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, and Co. virtually breezed through the competition without breaking a sweat. Aside from their opening win, a comfortable 72-81 win over Nigeria, Team USA never won by anything less than double-figures.

Though one difference has been the fact that they're no longer the focal points for the team's offense like they used to be. They've had to yield to their younger counterpart, from their own teams even, in Breanna Stewart and Brittney Griner. But the longevity of excellence both Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi have displayed is second to none. Who knows, maybe they'll be up for a sixth in 2024?
