The Tennessee Volunteers enjoyed another successful season, securing their fifth straight campaign with a winning record while making it to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in that span. However, their recent success didn't stop them from making a recruiting splash, as they landed a huge commitment from five-star recruit Julian Phillips out of Link Academy on Thursday, as reported by 247 Sports.

“They recruited me the first time and I had a good relationship with coach [Rick] Barnes and coach [Justin] Gainey and the rest of the staff previously,” he said of why he chose the Volunteers. “This second time around and him staying as consistent as he did with me, it showed me a lot in how bad he really wanted me. The plan he had for me coming in as a freshman, I think it's something that I like a lot and something that I can do well in within his system. He coached a lot of great wings and had success with putting them in the NBA.”

With an eye towards the NBA, Phillips committed to the Tennessee Volunteers, who he feels have a system that he can excel in. The Vols do indeed have a history of sending talented wing players to the NBA, such as Grant Williams, Josh Richardson and Tobias Harris.

A plus shooter, with the versatility to guard multiple positions, Phillips will prove to be a great get for Tennessee.
