The Washington Wizards lost a nail-biter to the Boston Celtics on Sunday in what turned out to be a truly disappointing loss. After the game, Wizards coach Scott Brooks spoke about a crucial Bradley Beal turnover that eventually cost Washington the game.

With the Wizards up one point, Beal turned the ball over in the backcourt after an inbound play, which according to coach Brooks, should not have happened if only he called a timeout (h/t Fred Katz of The Athletic):

Here's a look at the controversial call that led to a key turnover for the Wizards:

Clearly, Beal was fuming with the referees after the play. However, the reason behind coach Brooks' decision not to call a timeout prior to the inbound play is what's even more baffling. The Wizards could have drawn up an inbound play from their own half, which could have saved the game for them. That's all water under the bridge now, though, and as they always say, such are the breaks of the game.

Beal was nothing short of outstanding for the Wizards on Sunday, though, finishing with 46 points and seven rebounds. He even made a key basket to put Washington ahead by five points with less than a minute remaining. Unfortunately, D.C. went on an all-out collapse after that play, as they allowed the Celtics to go on a 6-0 run to close out the game.

The silver lining here is that Washington has lost just two games in their last nine. It could have easily been eight wins in their last nine had it not been for Sunday's debacle.
