The Bears vs. Lions matchup started pretty on par with what spectators are expecting. Both teams have been struggling throughout the entire season, so nobody expected a great game.

Bears linebacker Christian Jones set the mood for the comedic matchup when he elected to defer in the coin toss. This would've been a normal thing to do if the Bears won the toss. But, the Detroit Lions won the toss and had already elected to defer.

The conversation between ref Adrian Hill and Jones went like this:

“Detroit has won the toss and elected to defer. Chicago, you want the ball?”

“I want to defer,” the Bears linebacker said.

“They deferred.”

“Oh they deferred.”

Pro Football Focus reporter Ari Meirov provided Twitter with the hilarious moment.

Hill was simply asking the Bears linebacker if the team wanted the ball or if they wanted to kick. Jones eventually cleared things up and said that they wanted the ball, but not before some chuckles from the commentators. The first game on the Thanksgiving slate (or should I say plate) is brought to FOX by the commentating team of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. They joked about the pregame fluke saying, “Christian Jones, he wanted to defer he didn't care what had already happened” as the teams arranged themselves for the opening snap.

If the game goes the way the coin toss did, the Lions could be looking at their first win of the season.
