The Roquan Smith era with the Chicago Bears has yet to officially start because of some hold up with contract negotiations. There were some holdups before with the language involving suspensions for on the field plays. The Bears wanted suspensions involving the crown of the helmet rule to allow the team to not guarantee the rest of the contract.

The Bears agreed to take that out of the contract but there are still some kinks that aren't allowing the two sides to agree to a contract. Bears coach Matt Nagy was asked about if a deal was close to being reach and the first year coach said he has no idea when a deal will get reached. Instead, he is just trying to focus on the players that are already in camp.

“There’s no news,” Nagy said, via the Chicago Sun-Times. “As we’ve all said from the beginning, there is a process. I just need to worry about who’s here. And that’s really, truly where I’m at. I’m at a point right now where I just want to focus on who’s here and that’s all — control what I can control and those are the guys that we have and it’s really not that hard. You can spin it in a million different ways, but it’s pretty simple. If you’re here, that’s where we’re at. If you’re not, you can go through the process and eventually get it figured out.”

The sooner the better for these two sides to get a deal done because every day he is absent it's another day that he is falling farther behind his teammates.
