It is set to be a year unlike any other for the Duke Blue Devils men's basketball team. Mike Krzyzewski is set to retire at the end of next season, handing the program over to his former player Jon Scheyer.

Expectations will be huge for Scheyer and Duke once Coach K leaves to continue on by keeping the program near the top of the sport. On Thursday, Scheyer got a big boost, landing top 20 recruit Kyle Filipowski as part of the 2022 class.

Courtesy of ESPN, Filipowski went into detail on why he chose Duke with Scheyer set to take over.

“At the end of the day, they just checked all of the boxes for me,” Filipowski told ESPN. “They are a national-level team, my academics were very important to me, and I had a good feel for the environment and campus. Just being around that type of environment and having those relationships, I really feel like when I'm done with my time at Duke I'll be the best version of myself, both on and off the court.”

At 6-foot-11, the New York native was getting plenty of major attention from a lot of the top programs in the country before he settled on Duke. He's known as being a playmaking big who can take the ball off the dribble and start the fast break and also has excellent touch down low.

For Scheyer, it's a huge get and will undoubtedly have other potential recruits viewing Duke as still a top tier option even once Coach K departs.
