Brett Favre signed with the Minnesota Vikings before the 2009 season and led the team to one of their best years in history. Favre went from being hated by Vikings fans, to being one of the most loved in franchise history. But what would have happened if Favre never played for the Packers and instead spent his career with the Vikings?

Let's look at how both franchises would have changed.

Vikings

Brett Favre was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons with the 33rd overall pick in the 1991 NFL draft. The Packers traded a first-round pick the following year to the Falcons to bring Favre to Green Bay.

The Vikings didn't have a first or second-round pick in the 1991 draft, but did hold two thirds. To trade up above the Falcons it probably would have taken both of those picks and a future second-round pick, which means wide receiver Jake Reed would have never been a member of the team.

Rich Gannon was the starting quarterback of the Vikings during the 1991 and 1992 season, a perfect guy for Brett Favre to sit behind and adjust to the NFL.

Quarterbacks that played after Gannon with the Vikings — but wouldn't have if Favre had been on the team — included Warren Moon, Brad Cunningham, Daunte Culpepper, and Brad Johnson.

It's hard to breakdown each season that Favre would have been with the Vikings, but there is one stands out above the rest; 1998.

The Vikings took Randy Moss with the 21st overall pick because of character issues. Even if Favre would have led the team to a few more victories the year before, and the Vikings drafted a few picks later, they probably still could have picked him. Cunningham was a great quarterback for that offense, but Favre would have been even better.

They made it to the NFC Championship game, but Brett Favre could have pushed them even deeper into the playoffs. Favre won only one Super Bowl during his time with the Packers, and he would have been able to accomplish at least that with the Vikings.

Packers

How the Packers would have been different isn't easy to predict, but one thing almost certainly would wind up happening. They would have kept going through different quarterbacks. If the team would have kept that 1992 draft pick maybe they would have spent that on a quarterback drafting Tommy Maddox. He wasn't a super successful NFL quarterback, but maybe he could have been with the Packers.

Green Bay Packers Hall of Famer Tommy Maddox sounds a bit weird… and maybe a bit unrealistic.
