Nike pulled a quick one on sneakerheads all over the world by doing a surprise release of a pair of retro Air Jordan sneakers moments before the debut of ESPN's highly anticipated Chicago Bulls docuseries, “The Last Dance.”

Nike dropped the Air Jordan 5 in the “Fire Red” colorway, which retailed at $200, and as expected, the limited number of pairs were sold out even before the show's opening credits.

Here's a look at Nike's freshest drop:

The iconic Air Jordan 5 originally hit the market in 1990, which was right as the Bulls' dynasty was getting underway.

Sneakerheads are some of the most passionate group of people when it comes to their hobby/craft, and they predictably jumped on the opportunity of celebrating the release of “The Last Dance” by purchasing a pair of the Jordan 5s. Well, this was the case for the lucky few who actually got 'em.

This was a pretty excellent marketing move by Nike, as they fully capitalized on the hype of the release of this groundbreaking documentary series. Nonetheless, their efforts pale in comparison to a certain auction house who reportedly auctioned off an autographed, game-worn jersey of MJ for no less than $216,000. Those guys certainly knew the right time to strike.
