Christmas is indeed the season of giving where people share their blessings to others.

New York Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony also felt the need to be generous and before his team's game on Sunday against the Boston Celtics, he gave a young fan the surprise of his life.

On behalf of the nine-time All-Star's foundation, the Garden of Dreams Foundation and Kia, he handed over the keys to a brand new car to 17-year-old Jarell Lara, who has undergone chemotherapy the past 18 months to battle a rare form of cancer called Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis.

When asked to give his thoughts on the gift to the young die-hard Knicks fan, Anthony said it's about more than basketball especially to help a family in need.

“This is bigger than sports… making a family happy, making a dream come true, giving them a day of happiness.”

Earlier this week, the 32-year-old Syracuse product also gave the Lara family a $2,000 spending spree at a local Target store for their other needs.

Despite the Knicks' loss on Christmas day, Anthony played inspired basketball and had one of his better games this season finishing with 29 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
