An anonymous Eastern Conference general manager says Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving is “a different kind of guy” and doesn't care about losing money if he leaves Boston in free agency this summer.

The Celtics can offer Irving the most money in free agency, but there has been a lot of noise about Irving leaving Boston for the New York Knicks.

“If you think the money he’s going to leave on the table by going somewhere else besides Boston is going to be an issue, you don’t know Kyrie,” one Eastern Conference General Manager told A. Sherrod Blakely of NBC Sports Boston. “He’s a different kind of guy; and a lot of the stuff that you would think would be an issue for him, he could care less about.”

Irving is expected to decline his player option worth $21 million for next season. There's still a chance the All-Star guard re-signs with the Celtics, but the momentum is not on Boston's side.

The Celtics lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the playoffs in five games. Irving struggled mightily, shooting just 35.6 percent overall and 21.9 percent from the 3-point line in the series.

Along with the Knicks, Irving has also been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets. If the Celtics can trade for New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis, the prevailing thought is Irving would commit to Boston long-term.
